"Internal Error" and "Resource is not available" messages in Google Analytics

From time to time, some Google Analytics functions will fail and you will receive the following message:

Resource is not available. Please try again later.

"Resource is not available. Please try again later.
One or more of the services on which we depend is unavailable. Please try again later after the service has had a chance to recover."

Why are you getting this error?

Sometimes this is caused by a scheduled maintenance or improvements of the Analytics service in those cases GA will usually notify the users in twitter, and there is not much to do but wait until the issue is fixed from their side.

But there are other times, that the error will be caused by a conflict on your browser, computer or user. I will show you a few things you can do to restore the functionality of your Analytics.

Is important to note that whether the error is coming from the Analytics Servers or is local on your computer, your data won't be affected.

How to fix "resource is not available" in Google Analytics

To fix the issue with the Resource is not available try the following:

  1. The first thing you need to do whenever you get this message is to clear your browser cache and cookies.
  2. Using a new browser or an incognito window can also help with cache and cookie issues.
  3. Sometimes the issue is related to your IP. Try restarting your modem, using your mobile internet, or using another IP connecting through VPN
  4. Use any of the Google Analytics Apps for mobile:

"Internal error" message

If you are getting the "internal error" message try the fixes above too.

However, sometimes this error is generated by a character that is not allowed in the text box of the setting or filter you are changing. In that case, just remove the illegal character.

"Internal Error. Analytics has encountered an unexpected condition and cannot fulfill the request."
